The five ALP CBAT batteries, and how each one is beaten

You need a T‑Score of 42 or above in every battery. There is no aggregate and no trade-off between them, so the battery you are weakest at is the only one that matters.

Memory Recall sequences, symbols and patterns shown for a few seconds only. Practise in short daily blocks. Memory decays fastest of all five if you leave it.
Following Directions Apply a set of written instructions to a grid or figure, exactly and in order. Most losses here are misreads, not gaps in ability. Read the instruction twice, act once.
Depth Perception Judge relative distance and depth from flat, two-dimensional cues. The least trainable by theory and the most trainable by volume. Repetition is the only route.
Concentration Sustain error-free attention across a long, monotonous task under time pressure. Train stamina, not speed. Do full-length papers rather than short bursts.
Perceptual Speed Compare near-identical figures or symbol strings at high speed. Accuracy first, then compress time. Speed built on sloppy scanning collapses in the hall.

RRB NTPC Station Master uses a different mix. Same T‑Score rule, different questions — which is why an ALP paper is not a substitute.

Selective Attention Pick the target signal out of dense distractor material. Practise with deliberately noisy sets so the real paper feels quiet.
Spatial Scanning Trace routes and locate targets inside maps, plans and diagrams. Directly mirrors the real job. Work on systematic scan paths, not random hunting.
Information Ordering Put steps, rules or events into the one correct sequence. Write the rule out before ordering. Reordering in your head is where errors enter.
Personality Test Consistency and psychological suitability for a safety-critical post. Answer consistently and honestly. Contradictory answers across items are what get flagged.

Three steps to a qualifying T‑Score

No lectures to sit through first. You start with a paper and let the score tell you where to work.

Sit one full paper

Take a complete, timed mock before studying anything. The result is your baseline and it tells you which batteries are already above 42.

Drill the weak battery

Use the topic-wise tests on whichever battery came back lowest. This is where nearly all the improvement happens, and it is the step most candidates skip.

Re-test until the floor lifts

Return to full papers and watch your lowest battery, not your average. When the floor clears 42 comfortably, you are ready.

Questions candidates actually ask

Straight answers on the T‑Score rule, the batteries and how to prepare.

The CBAT (Computer Based Aptitude Test) is the psychological aptitude stage of RRB Assistant Loco Pilot recruitment. It is required for the ALP post; candidates who applied only for Technician posts do not sit it.

It is not a knowledge test. It measures cognitive traits that matter in a safety-critical cab role, which is why it is scored differently from CBT 1 and CBT 2.

You need an RDSO-normalised T-Score of at least 42 in every single battery. There is no aggregate and no compensation between batteries.

This is the single most misunderstood rule in the exam. A candidate who scores very well in four batteries and 41 in the fifth is disqualified. That is exactly why every test on this platform reports your score battery by battery, not as one number.

Five: Memory, Following Directions, Depth Perception, Concentration and Perceptual Speed. Each is timed separately and scored separately.

What does improve is familiarity with the question formats, your scan technique, and your ability to hold accuracy while the clock runs. Those are trainable, and they are what separates a 38 from a 48.

Yes. The complete RDSO syllabus is available in both Hindi and English, and you can switch language per test. Sit the paper in whichever language you will use in the exam hall.
